Infrastructure sustainability pilot
Learn how we're integrating Sustainability by Design principles across our projects, to ensure life cycle thinking of our assets.

Building sustainable energy infrastructure
A brighter future is a sustainable future - and sustainability is at the heart of our corporate strategy as we transition towards distributed, smarter energy solutions.
Our mission is to accelerate the decarbonisation of the energy sector, driving positive change for our customers, communities and the environment. And to ensure we hold ourselves accountable and maintain transparency with our stakeholders, we have become a member of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia - a purpose-led, member-based organisation that operates in Australia and New Zealand.
It's our mission is to promote sustainability outcomes in infrastructure, through advocacy, education and asset rating schemes. Our membership aligns with our goal of driving sustainability and advancing our environmental initiatives.
IS Rating Scheme
The IS Rating Scheme (IS) is Australia and New Zealand’s only comprehensive rating system for evaluating the economic, social and environmental performance of infrastructure across the planning, design, construction and operational phases of infrastructure assets.
The scheme assesses the sustainability performance of infrastructure at the individual asset level, for portfolios or networks, or even at a regional scale.
In delivering on our sustainability commitments, the business has selected the Grantham Farm Zone Substation project as its first IS Design and As-Built Rating pilot project.
Sustainability by design is critical for achieving long-term environmental and economic goals. By integrating sustainability into the design process, we ensure that our solutions are not only environmentally friendly, but also cost-effective over the entire life cycle. This approach encourages a holistic view of infrastructure, from initial design to decommissioning, which helps us find opportunities for cost savings and value optimisation.
By adopting a sustainability-focused design process, we can use partnerships and innovative approaches to enhance the value we deliver to our customers and stakeholders. This strategic emphasis on sustainability not only fulfils our environmental commitments, but also creates opportunities for increased efficiency and long-term financial benefits.
