Overview

The Grantham Farm zone substation project involves the construction of critical infrastructure to support electricity supply for the growing residential and commercial developments in the Riverstone Precinct. Located at 265 Garfield Road East, Grantham Farm, the substation is surrounded by a mix of rural residential properties and future residential developments.

The proposal involves:

  • Installation, operation and maintenance of an outdoor 132/11kV switchyard with two 45MVA transformers
  • Installation of prefabricated buildings for switchgear, protection and control equipment and amenities
  • Installation of earthing, protection, SCADA, communication, fire management, conduits, security and control systems, for the safe and reliable operation of the substation
  • Installation of six new steel poles within the site boundary, to connect the new substation to existing network
  • Various ancillary works, including transformer enclosures, drainage, security fencing, solar panels, battery systems, auxiliary padmount substation and landscaping of the site

The need

This proposal will strengthen energy reliability, while servicing the growing residential and commercial developments in the Riverstone Precinct. It represents a key infrastructure upgrade to support the area’s future energy needs.

Review of environmental factors

Endeavour Energy, as the Authorised Network Operator and proponent for this proposal, will undertake an assessment of the project in consideration of all environmental, technical, financial and community impacts. Under the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act), Endeavor Energy is the determining authority of the proposal. In accordance with Part 5 of the EP&A Act, Endeavour Energy has prepared a draft Review of Environmental Factors (REF) which outlines:

  • The proposal description and justification (including benefits and objectives)
  • An overview of the relevant legislative framework
  • Consultation completed during the assessment phase
  • Consideration of alternatives
  • The environmental impact assessment and mitigation measures to be applied during construction and operation of the proposal

Community correspondence

Stakeholder input and feedback is an important part of the environmental impact assessment process. Stakeholders and landowners located close to the proposal area will be notified of construction works ahead of time. Any impacted customers will be notified of planned electricity outages, which will be kept to a minimum and be as short as possible, to safely facilitate the development.

A Notice of Determination, containing the development consent conditions and authorising the construction works, will be issued by Endeavour Energy for the development.
