Community batteries

These batteries make the most of rooftop solar systems by storing the excess locally-generated solar energy, then sharing it back with the community. Even better, is the fact that you don’t even have to have a rooftop solar system or own your own home to enjoy the benefits of community batteries. 

If your home has solar panels, you can store any excess solar power generated during the day, then access it later when you need. However, if your home is eligible to access a community battery, but doesn’t have a solar system on its roof, you can still use a set amount of energy per day, receiving a rebate on the energy your energy use.

This all helps to lower electricity costs, balance the grid and lower our reliance on fossil fuels, while also supporting the continued growth of household solar on the electricity network.

Network batteries

These regulate the frequency and voltage mitigating network imbalances due to high local solar generation. They stabilise electricity quality to lower the risk of outages during peak use times, while also absorbing excess solar energy from local rooftop solar panels to provide more reserve electricity for high demand periods.

STATCOM

A STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) is used to regulate voltage levels and improve the stability of the power grid. It provides reactive power compensation to help maintain constant voltage despite changes in load or other disturbances.

Stand-alone power systems

This is an electricity supply arrangement that is not physically connected to the electricity grid, which includes both microgrids and individual power systems and is able to generate and distribute electricity independently.

Microgrid

This is a small, local source of power that can operate independently of the main electricity grid. It typically includes a combination of renewable energy sources like solar panels and energy storage like batteries.

FLISR

Our Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR) is transforming the way we respond to unplanned power outages, which improves the speed and efficiency of service restoration. It helps us better coordinate switching devices across the network, to minimise the number of customers affected by unplanned outages and quickly restore supply, by rerouting power from adjacent parts of the network.
